Mother Hopes to Gain Some Peace of Mind with Wrongful Death Lawsuit
The mother of college student Beth Ann Ruhl, who was killed two years ago when her car was run off a road in Cornwall , hopes that a Wrongful Death lawsuit against the driver of the other car will bring her some emotional comfort.
That driver, Alfred Cirillo of New Windsor, who was 21 at the time of the accident, received a seven day sentence in the Orange County Jail after pleading guilty to reckless driving.
Beth Ann's mother, Betty Ann Ruhl, said winning a civil suit may ease some of the pain.
“In a way it will; that I know he had to pay,” she said. “But nothing will bring her back. He needs to suffer. He really needs to suffer. He'll never know and he doesn't care.”
While Mrs. Ruhl's attorney, Joseph Owen, Jr. is suing for several million dollars, he acknowledges that any settlement would be for the limits of Cirillo's insurance policy.
Beth Ann was a freshman at Mount Saint Mary College when she was killed on March 28, 2004 .
